Mexico City Family Photographer | Chapultepec Park Portraits

As a family photographer in Mexico City, I’m fortunate to work with families of all shapes and sizes. A 14‑member session doesn’t come along every day, and it’s always a joy. Each session is a chance to pause the hustle, enjoy one another’s company, and create timeless images your family will cherish.
When planning a recent session, a family of fourteen asked me to photograph them in Chapultepec Park. They wanted to include grandma and grandpa, their four adult children with spouses, and all the grandchildren—two lively boys aged four and five from each of two families, two cousins aged ten and eleven, and one couple in their twenties who haven’t yet started a family of their own. It was a perfect mix of generations and personalities, and Chapultepec Park provided the ideal setting.

Why Family Portraits Matter in a Busy City
In a city as dynamic as CDMX, families are constantly juggling responsibilities. Kids grow quickly, grandparents visit from afar, and siblings move away. A professional family portrait preserves not just how everyone looks but also reinforces the connections and feelings everyone feels.
Smartphones are great for snapshots, but they can’t replace a thoughtfully planned session that includes everyone, in front of the camera. When you choose me as your family photographer in CDMX, your portraits will reflect your family’s unique character, and I’ll handle all the logistics of a large group so you can simply enjoy the day together.

Chapultepec Park: Mexico City’s Natural Studio
Chapultepec Park is more than just a patch of green in the centre of the metropolis. At over 1,600 acres, it’s one of the largest urban parks in the world, boasting lakes, a zoo, museums, and botanical gardens. Open lawns and shady paths invite families to relax while vendors selling cotton candy and other treats create a festive and authentic Mexican atmosphere—a delight for any family photographer.
Locals often compare it to Mexico City’s own Central Park because of its size and variety. For photography, this blend of nature and culture offers endless variety—tree‑lined trails for intimate portraits, shimmering water for reflective images, and historic stone architecture to ground your photos in Mexican heritage. During our session, we used the open fields to capture group shots of all fourteen family members, then moved to quieter areas for smaller groups, letting the backgrounds change to complement each family’s style.

Telling the Story of a Four‑Generation Family
We met near the lake to avoid crowds and catch the soft light that filters through Chapultepec’s trees. Grandparents greeted each child with hugs while the four couples chatted and adjusted their outfits. I started with the large group portraits, arranging everyone so that grandparents were central and the adult children and spouses formed a gentle curve around them. The four little boys—two brothers aged four and five in each of two families—stood in front, holding hands and giggling. Their older cousins, a thoughtful ten‑year‑old and an adventurous eleven‑year‑old, took turns standing beside their parents before running off to explore.
As we moved deeper into the park, I captured candid interactions. The young boys delighted in chasing each other along the path and picking up fallen leaves. I encouraged the parents to swing them high and let their laughter fill the air. It was way easier for my work as a family photographer than I had imagined to coordinate such a large group.
While their siblings took a breather, the twenty‑something newlyweds slipped away for a few sweet portraits together. I mixed gentle guidance with candid moments so everyone could relax and enjoy themselves. Later, Andrea—one of the moms—told me the session felt more like a fun family outing than a formal photo shoot, and comments like that always make me smile.
How I Plan and Deliver Family Sessions

Organizing a fourteen-person session might sound scary, but with careful planning, it can go smoothly, as it happened in this ocassion. Before the shoot, we discussed wardrobe ideas, scheduled the session when the light is flattering(when possible), and advise on bringing snacks and toys to keep children happy.
On the day of the session, my goal is to make everyone feel at ease. I use simple directions, capture genuine smiles, and allow plenty of time for breaks so no one feels rushed. During post‑production, I deliver a curated gallery that includes a mix of group portraits, smaller family photos, and individual candid shots. Each image is lightly retouched to enhance colours and remove minor distractions while preserving natural expressions.
