Tama River, which divides Tokyo from Kanagawa, made me remember a Save the Date shoot I did a while ago, in similar Pampas Grass like on the Nippon river.
Couples usually book a Save the Date session before the most crucial step of their life: the wedding. The couple uses the photographs to create cards to inform their families and friends about their fantastic decision to take their relationship to a whole new level.

Save the Date Photography session anywhere in Tokyo
Like every family photo session, Save the Date shoots can be organized anywhere you would like, be it an urban scenery or an urban nature in the multitude of parks available in the capital of the Land of the Rising Sun. It is an essential prewedding step for every couple. As an English speaking photographer based in Tokyo, I always sense a unique vibe during these sessions. The emotions of the newly engaged couple are visible and are the perfect contributor for amazing photographs.
Japan is a fantastic place to live, and as a family photographer, I’m telling you, there is no better place for photoshoots than Tokyo, which has a little something to fit every taste. The multitude of Buddhist shrines and temples, and parks like Shinjuku Gyoen National Park is perfect for couples who want to have an unforgettable shoot with memories to last a lifetime.
Save the Date session around Tama River, the border between Tokyo and Yokohama
I have been cycling around 1000km around Tama River; thus, I know “every inch” of it, as far as I could go North-West until I hit Wada Bridge. Okay, it was the 7-Eleven nearby, the 50km mark to return home after a long day in the saddle, and the place where I would have my lunch. Since I mention cycling, here are a few photos of a very powerful cyclist I photographed a while back.
As I was saying, I know quite well the Tama riverside, and I find it a lovely place to shoot, especially for families with children. Because it’s such a large area away from traffic, everyone would be very relaxed, and the kids especially would have tons of ground to run over and have fun while I would capture unique portraits of them.
As you can see below, this is a photograph I took with my iPhone Xs on the way back from a ride I did to climb up Takao Mountain and see the Lake Sagami on the other side. It was an incredible but tiring experience that got me home under dark, barely peddling the last few kilometers to arrive home.
Not every spot on the Tama River has direct views to Fuji Mountain, but there are a few, like the one above near the Tamagawa Water Park.
Every Save the Date session tells a love story, one frame at a time, inspiring me to create beautiful couple portraits, later to be used as notices, wedding invitations, and impress the friends and family with their story. Every time I can remember my wife and I, during our first steps in our relationship. All those familiar emotions are constructive, and I can bond with every couple because I was there too. Helping the young couple be at ease is one of my goals and recipe for the perfect portraits, the last ones before becoming a family officially.
