If you are looking to hire a Tokyo portrait photographer for couples, I have good news for you: you are in the right place. Couples and family photography are some of my favorite subjects to photograph, creating timeless images to last for a lifetime.
One of the most popular places for outdoor portrait shoots in Tokyo is Shinjuku Gyoen National Park. The park shines throughout the year, no matter the season. If you are looking for autumn portraits with the one you love and don’t have the time to travel, Shinjuku Koen is a fantastic choice.

Tokyo portrait photographer for couples, session in Shinjuku Gyoen National Park
As a Tokyo portrait photographer for couples, I learned to pay attention more to the couple’s chemistry than the place itself. Since I know(and shot at) many places around the town, I know that Shinjuku Gyoen National Park has countless options for unique backgrounds featuring a fantastic urban nature.
One of my favorite spots to shoot at is the Sycamore Trees corridor, where during autumn is full of leaves fallen on the ground creating an idyllic multicolored background. This place can make any couple stand out in a perfect setting for portraits during an informal session or a unique surprise proposal.
Sycamore Trees’ avenue sits on the East side of the park, next to the Rose Beds, which are best to see from mid-October to mid-November. If you were looking for one more reason to visit this side of the park during autumn, there you go: roses.
Although the entire Shinjuku Koen is mesmerizing, the forestry side setting is preferable instead of shooting at the flat Landscape Garden during autumn. As a Tokyo portrait photographer specializing in couples, families, and engagement outdoor portrait sessions, I recommend planning a shoot in this park due to its immense size and possibilities to shoot inside. While it may get crowded at times, especially during weekends, an early morning shoot or weekdays are the best choice.
Now that I started the topic of recommendations, it is worth mentioning one other important factor: the time you choose to have your photography session, from a photographic perspective. Shooting during the early mornings will have better results because the light is softer, producing flattering shadows. Following the same rule, late afternoons and sunsets are also the best having a soft natural light, especially helpful if you and your loved one are not morning persons.

I’m always aiming to portray you in a timeless manner so you could print the full-size, high-resolution digital images I offer as a result of your shoot.
If your time is limited, but you still want to have an autumn portrait session and love the urban nature scenery, I’m ready to meet you at any sights like Shinjuku Gyoen National Park or any similar places.
